About Us

The Physio Bunker originates from humble beginnings. Established by Leon in April 2024 in the downstairs flat of his very own Birkenhead home. While continuing to contract full time for a Ponsonby clinic, his clientele, the demand for his services and his desire to continue helping those in his own community grew exponentially.

Leon saw an opportunity and is now committed full time to helping people from his home studio while he anticipates his newly renovated space in Birkenhead to be completed. The new clinic will contain two treatment rooms, a boutique gym space and a comfortable client area. Leon’s dream for this space is to expand his team and services further to continue providing the Birkenhead and surrounding community with the highest quality, empowering and personalised care that they deserve.

  • Yes! A GP referral is not required to see a Physiotherapist

    The Physio Bunker is ACC registered, so we can help determine at your initial appointment whether your injury likely qualifies for ACC.

    We can help you fill out the necessary paperwork, lodge and process your ACC claim for you.

  • ACC, or the Accident Compensation Corporation, is a personal injury insurance scheme unique to New Zealand. It provides no-fault cover for all New Zealand residents & visitors (including tourists) who are injured in an accident.

    ACC will cover most injuries that have occurred at home, work, community, playing sport and if you are involved in a motor vehicle accident.

  • No. While ACC contributes to the cost of your treatment, a co-payment is required after each appointment. You can find our fees here.

    Our fees are in line with our experience and qualifications. We invest heavily in upskilling and professional development to provide expert level care. We also offer longer than standard appointment times to ensure the best possible treatment is provided.

    We are also Southern Cross affiliated. Depending on your health insurance policy, you may be able to claim all or part of your co-payment.

  • Absolutely! As long as this is still a valid claim. ACC claims expire 12 months after the date of injury and typically have a maximum number of treatments before prior approval is required.

  • The Physio Bunker also offers private appointments. As ACC is not subsidising your treatment, this comes at a higher cost. You can see our private fees here.

    Depending on your private health insurance, you may be able to seek reimbursement for a percentage of or number of appointments with us.

    We are also Southern Cross affiliated and can claim for you using the Easy-Claim portal.

  • Our initial consultations are 60-minutes. This ensures we can thoroughly assess, diagnose and provide a treatment plan at your first appointment.

    Our standard follow-up appointment is 60-minutes, however we also offer 30 and 45-minute appointments depending on your condition.
